Planning - Animatic Storyboard

Group Roles

Barney Flood - My role for this Animatic Storyboard for 'The Ripple Effect' was to take half of the pictures along with Elijah taking the other half. As well as this I directed where characters needed to be for each image and what they needed to do. Once all the images were taken, I then uploaded them to my laptop and transferred all of the files needed to my memory stick so that the files could be brought into school and the editing of our storyboard could begin. Once I brought in the files I then started to edit the storyboard. Initially we all began discussing as I began to edit, how it was going to be done and we all contributed to how it would be edited. My role was to then edit the entire storyboard which included bringing in the music, editing the images specifically and incorporating the titles into the sequence. Once the Storyboard was completed I then exported the file onto my memory stick and after that I uploaded the video to YouTube. Once all of this was complete I then created this post for our blog and shared our video above, so that it is now in this post on our blog.

Zak Jakubowski - The role i played for this task in the Animatic story board for 'Ripple effect' was to star in each image as i am an actor in the film 'Tyler'. i had give the impression i was running in each scene like i would be in the film along with Lucy Gladdish 'Elizabeth'. with help from Barney as the director i knew what i had to do in each scene and where to go for the next. i also helped discuss a few camera shots with Barney sharing views on what would make the film better and from that and Elijah's role played well as a camera man, the Animatic came together nicely in the end and now this is the post on the blog.

Elijah Potter - My role for this Animatic Storyboard was the be the cameraman, this was an important job as I had to get various shots that would tell the story well. I used creative angles and suggested various ideas. With the help of Barney Flood, we were able to obtain various shots that could be used effectively.

Planning - Shot List

Group Roles

Zachary Jakubowski - for this task I typed up everything, I had to use the camera shots for the animatic as a guideline as to which shots were taken when because not every scene was taken in the order. I also had to work out which shots were where and if they were exterior or interior, if the camera was handheld or with a tripod. also I had to work out which scenes had conversation which was easy because there are only a few. Elijah and Barney helped me with the shot description as they were there and could help me remember what the shot consisted of.

Barney Flood - For this task I gave Zak the resource of the animatic and the film so that he could record each shot and the list that they come in. Other than that, this post was mainly completed by Zak.

Elijah Potter - I provided Zak assistance for various shots, reminding him of certain shots and providing little help for the descriptions. Overall, Zak had the biggest influence for this task.

Planning - Location Shots

Planning - Location Shots

This is Riverside, which is located in Rainham. We chose this location because it ties in with our romantic theme that we are striving to achieve. The landscape is open and bonds well with nature, this can be used to contrast the two main character's feelings, who are trying to find paradise within their love lives.

This particular location is set near Riverside in the nature reserve on Berengrave Lane. The bench is isolated, looking over the scene that shows the whole landscape. This effectively portrays the relationship that these characters share, who are both seeking freedom to love.

This location is set near Riverside in the nature reserve on Berengrave Lane. This is in the point of view of the bench, showing the two antagonists, being Barney (Left) and his brother Seb (Right). The light is significant in this picture, as it seems darker than the others. This can be used to portray the fact that these characters pose a threat to the relationship that is trying to develop. The trees are symbolic, as well with the trees, with the sky representing the wealthy girl and their relationship, and the trees representing the country boy, who is grounded to the limits of his society, ultimately making their relationship seem inevitable.

Group Roles

Elijah Potter - My group role was to look at each individual picture and analyse them throughout, considering my interpretations and what may be symbolic and iconic. Thinking about why certain pictures were taken in certain places and why some effects may have put into them. Although i wasn't able to take the first couple of pictures, I was able to take an efficient picture of the antagonists and note why the location chosen was significant to them.

Barney Flood - For this task my role was to take the first two images of the landscape with Lucy and Zak in one of them. I also helped Elijah along with Zak in analysing the images and why they are effective for our film. I then uploaded the images onto my laptop at home - I saved the images onto my memory stick and I then saved the images to our groups folder on our school computer so Elijah could access them and upload them here to the blog.

Zachary Jakubowski - My group role for this task was to help Elijah describe the each picture for the location shots along with Barney and just basically observe Elijah while he typed this task up. I also was in some images as I am the actor in the film. My final contribution to this task was to help take the actual pictures, I took some of them and also helped when positioning the camera for other pictures

Planning - Pitch Video

Group Roles

Elijah PotterI was responsible for uploading the video to the blog in this post.

Barney Flood - I saved the video file to my memory stick from the camera which took the video. Then I saved onto the computer for Elijah to do his job in uploading it.

Zak Jakubowski - my role for this task was to navigate through the pitch while Elijah and Barney discuss the ideas for  the film to the class, I also contributed to creating the pitch along with the Barney and Elijah and helped answered questions about our pitch.

Planning - Music

For our main task we are creating the opening to our film called 'The Ripple Effect'. Due to our film being a Romantic Drama Film, our music we want to use will be very key in order for our end product to be good and effective. We had a few choices that we may have used - one being "High Hopes" by Kodaline, however the one song we wanted to use for our film was a song called "King and Lionheart" by Of Monsters and Men. The song and the lyrics enhance the idea of two people wanting to be together however there are people wanting them to be separated. This links with our plot to our film perfectly and that is why I felt we needed this piece of music.

I contacted Republic Records - The Record Label who own the copyright to the song. I e-mailed them, messaged their Facebook page and tweeted to them on twitter trying to get permission to use the original song. Sadly they didn't reply so I found a cover of the song which will still be effective for our film. I messaged the owner of the version on YouTube and he gave me permission to be able to use his song for our Main Task. So our music is a cover of King and Lionheart by joshbwild.

Group Roles

Barney Flood - For music, my role was initially to discuss it with the rest of the group. I came up with the idea of using "King and Lionheart" and the others agreed. I made all of the research into finding copyright owners for the song we wanted. I also researched the copyright law to confirm what we needed in order to be able to use a song made by someone else. I then made all of the communication in getting permission for the music from both Of Monsters and Men as well as joshbwild. After this I typed up this post and posted it here.

Elijah Potter - Basically, I contributed in the decision making that helped us come to conclusion that "King and Lionheart" will be the song that we will be using. It was Barney's initial idea to choose this song, and I felt that it was a great choice.

Zachary Jakubowski- For this task my role was to help decide as a group what song best suites the genre and script of our story, we all came to a conclusion that "King and Lionheart" would be that song. It was Barneys initial idea to choose this song and me and Elijah agreed with his decision.

Research into similar products - Institutional Research

In preparation for our Main Task we have researched into institutions in the film and media industry. We have found film distributors, such as '20th Century Fox', and 'New Line Cinema'. Film distributors are in charge of marketing a film, perhaps setting the date in which it is going to be released, where it will be released etc. They make the decision on whether the film will be released in cinema at all, or whether it will just be released on DVD or if the DVD will be released before the film is released in a cinema. A film distributor may also be in charge of advertising the film before it's release date. So they will advertise the film in magazines, newspapers and also on billboards and on the television. Often a lot of money is spent on advertisement.

One of the most known Distributors is '20th Century Fox'. They distribute many brilliant films such as 'Avatar', 'Star Wars' and one of our influential films 'Titanic'. They are a very successful film company and that is clear from the statistics of their films they have distributed. For Avatar, the budget was estimated around $237 million and the film grossed $760,505,847 which is a massive profit. Also for Titanic the budget was $200 million and the film grossed $658,672,302, which again is a massive profit, making 20th Century Fox a very successful Film Distributor.

For our Film opening 'The Ripple Effect', we wanted to use a film distributor that has distributed films similar to our own. My most influential film was 'The Notebook', and New Line Cinema was the distributor for that film, so we wanted to use them to distribute our film. New Line Cinema is a very big film company and have distributed brilliant films such as 'Lord of the Rings', 'Sex and The City' and 'I am Sam'. Because New Line Cinema have been successful in distributing many brilliant films we decided that they would be a great choice to distribute 'The Ripple Effect'. The main reason for choosing New Line Cinema is because of 'The Notebook' and the film had a massive impact on our choice for the main task.

Group Roles

Barney Flood - I was the author for this post and I typed all of the information up. I researched into specific film distributors and found out some facts that back up their success in the film and media industry. I discussed with Elijah and Zak about how key film distributors are and we compared a few film distributors - ultimately coming to the decision agreeing to use New Line Cinema as our film distributor. I also posted our research here.

Zak Jakubowski- My group role for this task was to shadow Barney while he was typing all of this up and to help him in anyway I could; discuss ideas, help with wording, generally come to his aid. I also researched myself so I had the knowledge to contribute and as well as helping discussing what to type I also took a lot of the information and websites in and remembered it all for my own benefit.

Elijah Potter - My group role was to listen to Barney as he discussed with me and Zak, from there I went on to various websites dedicated to films and how films of our genre have progressed over the years, one of the most significant films being 'Titanic' being an all time great. I researched and took information from these websites in.
