Planning - Pitch for Ripple Effect

Main Task Pitch
Ripple Effect
Genre
Romantic tragedy

Location
Rainham Nature Reserve/Riverside

Time
Early Morning

Characters
Young Sophisticated girl
Poor Country boy
Father’s Henchmen (2)

Plot
A rich man’s daughter falls in love with a country boy who her father despises. They secretly meet up for a while without her father knowing but after a while he catches what she has been going out of the house for so often. He gets some of his men together to go out and find where the boy lives and burn his house down with him inside, so that his daughter will have to move on and forget about the boy. For our opening we will be showing the beginning of the film which involves a scene of the couple running through the riverside, away from her dad’s men. Chronologically this is not the beginning of the story as after the opening scenes there will be a title stating “six months earlier” with the beginning of the romantic story beginning there with the boy and the girl not knowing each other at the start. The effect of showing the couple together at the beginning of the film shows their relationship at that moment in time, so that they can contrast that to their relationship and how it grows when they first meet and get closer etc.

Key Camera angles + techniques used
·        Establishing shot – to show scenery and the lovely view of the wood.
·        Panning shot – again this is going to be used to show the idyllic scenery.
·        Tilt up shot – this is going to be used to show the characters entering the scene.
·        Crab shot – this is going to be used to show a slight close up of the two as they run.
·        Medium close-up – to show emotion of the characters.
·        Two-shot – to show the close relationship between the girl and the boy.
·        Canted angle – to show a bit of danger.
·        Close-up – to show key objects and to enhance their relevance. Also creates enigma.

Mise en scene
·        A bench in one section of the wooded area
·        Characters to be dressed in specific clothes –
·        Boy dressed in denim jacket and country type clothes (poor clothes maybe).
·        Girl dressed quite smart maybe in a nice skirt/dress or a fluffy coat if cold.
·        The 2 men dressed in black suits or just smart clothes.
·        Bracelets for the boy and the girl

Music
·        King and Lionheart – Of Monsters and Men

Audience
·        Mainly females
·        People who enjoy the Romantic genre

Group Roles

Barney Flood - My role for the pitch was to deliver the pitch to the class. I tried to explain the plot we had for our film and explain what we intend to do for our opening scene for our main task. Highlighting key camera angles + techniques I believe that the pitch went quite well and I think that I explained most of what was needed to be said. I then answered questions that our class asked us along with Elijah and Zak.

Elijah Potter - I presented my ideal title for Barney's pitch. Allowing Barney to explain the pitch and express his plans, before I said what i felt was a necessary title for the main task.

Zak Jakubowski - My role for this pitch was to operate the mouse and scroll down along with Barney and Elijah reading out different parts of the pitch. I also played a part answering questions from the class with Elijah and Barney.
